This etude should be played with straight quavers or eighth notes. Try to feel the pulse in two beats per measure. Play horizontally, joining up and connecting the phrasing whenever possible. The rests at the beginning of many measures are often much shorter than you would expect. Treat it as an extension of the previous phrase and it will help you to keep in time.
